"Plans for the 1979 Fall German Semester are moving along quickly and judging from the success of the current semester in Munich, it will be an exciting experience in education for students who take part," related Rhonda Womble of the Center for Off Campus Educa tion. At the request of the faculty, Dean Sybille Colby visited Munich to evaluate the current semester program. She interviewed the German faculty, most of the students and had talks with Mary and Carroll Feagins. She then returned with a report which gave high ratings to both the faculty and the semester abroad. The 29 students now studying in Munich will return on Dec. 19th. The students have been living with German families in homes located in the University of Munich area of the city. A Munich Semester Week is being planned for Jan. 24-31, which will give the campus community a chance to share in and learn about the unique educational experiences of the 1978 members. With the University of Munich student union activities, and events included in the semester program, there have been many opportunitites for the students to get a "German perspective'' on their surroundings. The semester group had its own "Off Campus Seminar" this fall with a five day excursion to Berlin, which enabled them to not only see, but to experience what they have been studying in their political science and history courses. Some of the activities included in the seminar were a visit to the College Choir and Community Chorus performed "A Christmas Offering." Campus catches holiday fever Various groups on Guilford's campus have been involved in plan ning and staging Christmas events before the semester break. Ed Lowe conducted "A Christmas Offering," Guilford's annual Yuletide concert on Dec. 10 in Dana Auditorium. The college choir combined with the Guilford Community Chorus, guest soloists and instrumentalists for the tenth annual presentation. On Dec. 8, the International Relations Club hosted a program to highlight Christmas customs around the world. Speakers from the countries represented in IRC shared their native countries' Christmas tradi tions in the Boren lounge of Founders. The speakers included Saied Azali from Iran and Kumiko Asakura, who spoke about Japanese Reichstag, an educational tour of West Berlin by bus, a visit to the exhibit, "Questions of German History: Ideas, Powers, and Deci sions - 1800 to Present," a discus sion led by a member of the Federal Office of Combined German Affairs on the situation in East Germany; and a visit to East Berlin, opera and theatre.
